What shaft length do you use? I am looking at getting a new cart and would have them cut down to work on a 46 shetland.

The cart has 88 inch shaft and 26 inch wheels. It is a horse cart by Houghton. I just sold my pony cart by Houghon with 68 shafts that looked too small. My guy wears a 56/58 or 62/64 blanket (if I remember correctly).

I remember someone mentioning 70. Jennifer (Sweet Opal) what do you use with Pow Wow? I think Remy may be about the same size. A few people got Remy and Pow Wow confused. I know I came out of the bathroom at congress last year and saw you go by. Wondering who was diving my pony.

Any help would be appreciated.

I drive mine in 66" shafts or 72" shafts (the road cart is 72" and my guys feet come clear underneath it).

The issue with horse carts is the width. Things can be easily cut down, but if its super wide, it'll look funny and really stretch your saddle. My jerald (I think) has around a 28" width (its the 72" cart). I just sold a wilform that had around 36" width shafts and I thought that was a bit wide for my skinny ponies. :P

Thanks. I will get the width of the cart I am looking at. My guy is pretty wide with a deep chest for driving. Last year he was driven with Dr Ken's pleasure cart and I think that was a 76 inch shaft. Dr Ken is getting me the width measurement. I liked how it looked and the shafts were balanced and level.

Did Houghton offer a cob size cart? I have seen 88 inch shafts and there is a 96 inch shaft I believe.

I just sold my 68 inch Houghton with 28 inch width between the shafts. I think it would have been too narrow.

Standing behind him, those shafts would rub him. He has a wide chest and butt. He is a driving machine. Nothing narrow on him.

If I had kept it for my narrow filly, it would have been perfect.

I'm pretty sure Jennifer Radoi (SweetOpal) uses a 72" shaft length with her taller ponies such as Pow Wow.
